The Malthouse is a large and comfortable four bedroom home that sleeps eight adults and one child and is available to rent for your wedding accommodation.
It is a Grade 2 listed building dating from the early 18th century, and features original timber, brick and stonework.
Originally the coach house, malthouse, and dairy for the estate, the Malthouse was converted into a home 40 years ago, and has recently been completely refurbished. The house is situated in the Courtyard, as part of our estate. It has been featured in various productions for film and television, including Downton Abbey and Emma (2020). The Malthouse itself is visible in two scenes from the latter.
The house has been lovingly decorated with a keen attention to detail, in an elegant and understated style, with an eclectic mix of antiques and more modern furnishings. The master bedroom has a super king-size bed, with an ensuite bathroom, and dressing room. The second bedroom has a king-size bed, and a shower room directly opposite it. The third bedroom has another king-size bed, and a daybed, and shares the large family bathroom with the fourth bedroom, which has a double bed. Each bedroom has ample space for a travel cot or crib, if necessary.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a large fridge-freezer, stove, and dishwasher. The living room, the original malthouse, has a Smart TV, large wood burning stove, and French windows leading outside into the garden. Between the entrance hall and the living room is the dining room, with a large table perfect for special occasions.
The private enclosed garden behind the house provides a quiet and secluded place to sit and relax, and has gated access directly to the West Park, which you will be free to roam during your stay.
Thanks to our on-site caterers, Elegant Cuisine, we are able to provide professionally cooked meals if you’d prefer to avoid the hassle of cooking for yourselves. These can either be delivered directly to the Malthouse, or prepared in the kitchen, and range from a simple continental breakfast to a gourmet multi-course lunch or supper. This is an optional extra, and not included in the cost of accommodation.
Given the realities of the post-covid world, we need to be particularly diligent about cleaning the property and disinfecting any surfaces that might harbour viruses. As such, we hope you understand that out of necessity we have been forced to implement a cleaning charge.
