Are the House and Garden accessible?
The grounds of the Estate include a variety of surfaces, including cobblestones, flagstones, grass, gravel, tarmac, bark, and wood. Please be aware that these can be uneven and steep in places. There are also steps in certain areas.
Parts of the grounds may be softer underfoot following heavy rain, especially in the winter months. Depending on the weather and time of year, we recommend proper footwear, such as walking boots.
- Wheelchair Access: Owing to the terrain, there is limited access for wheelchairs and pushchairs in parts of the Garden. We recommend rugged tyres able to handle slopes and varied surfaces, particularly during Winter and early Spring.
We regret that there is no wheelchair access into the House.
- Motorised Scooters: These are not permitted in the House but are welcome for use in the Garden.
- Accessible Parking: There is accessible parking available. Please ask on arrival. The main accessible parking area is in the same field as our regular parking, but it is closer to the gravel paths leading towards the House. Depending on availability there may also be parking spaces on the hard standing by the drive, and in the courtyard.
- Pick Up & Drop Off: On normal Open Days we allow for the drop-off and collection of disabled passengers nearer the House. After drop-off vehicles must park in our usual parking area until required for collection to ensure ease of access.
- Accessible Toilets: There is a wheelchair-accessible disabled toilet by the southwest side of the House.
- Tea Room Access: The Tea Room is in the basement of the house and therefore not wheelchair accessible, but outdoor seating is available.
- Carers: We do not charge admittance for carers accompanying visitors.
- Assistance Dogs: Assistance dogs are welcome in the House and Garden.
Are dogs allowed in the House and Gardens?
Only highly trained assistance dogs are permitted in the House and Garden. We do not allow emotional support animals or other pets.
Assistance dogs include guide dogs, seizure alert and response dogs, diabetic alert dogs, mobility assistance dogs, and others. They are distinguished by the fact that they have received special training to perform specific tasks that help those with disabilities or long-term medical conditions. They should be calm and well behaved at all times and must remain on a lead.
Is there parking?
Yes, there is free parking. Parking is entirely at vehicle owners’ own risk. We will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to vehicles or their contents.
There is accessible parking available for those with disabilities. Please ask on arrival.
