THE DRAWING ROOM

The Drawing Room shows the elegant proportions and symmetry of the house.

The keystones over the doorways and windows echo those over the windows on the exterior facades. The stone floor is an indication that this was the original entrance hall of the house.  Doors also lead to the dining room and library.  The twin fireplaces date from the early 18th century remodelling.

The Drawing Room is furnished with French and English furniture, with a large Turkish rug on the floor.

Downton Abbey

The Entrance Hall and Drawing Room featured in Series 5, 6 and the Christmas Special of the television drama Downton Abbey as the home of Lord Merton.  Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Penelope Wilton were among the actors who took part in these scenes.
